Investment Management

Allocation is the decision that matters most

Which specific fund you own matters far less than how much sits in growth versus stability, and which account each piece sits in. That is where we start.

How we set it

Building the mix

  1. Step 1

    Time horizon by goal

Money needed in three years is invested differently from money needed in twenty. Each goal gets its own horizon.

  2. Step 2

    Risk capacity and tolerance

What the plan can absorb and what you can actually live through are two different limits. We use the lower of the two.

  3. Step 3

    The household view

Allocation is set across every account together, not one account at a time — which is where most duplication hides.

  4. Step 4

    Account location

Deciding what belongs in registered versus non-registered versus corporate accounts, based on how each is taxed.

  5. Step 5

    Target bands and review

Every target gets a tolerance band and a review date, so drift is caught and corrected on purpose.

Diversification

Where diversification actually comes from

Across asset classes

Equity, fixed income and cash in proportions set by the plan rather than by recent performance.

Across geography

Canadian, US and international exposure, with home-country bias managed deliberately.

Across time

Systematic contributions and staged deployment instead of single-date decisions.

Bring your statements and we will map what you own across every account in one view.
